Not Getting Through

Not sure what's happening. My posts don't seem to be getting through to the interactions list. So... I will ramble.

Dan Kimball's "The Emerging Church" is getting better towards the end. Today he talked about "Haircut Homiletics": He gets his hair cut twice a month (I sometimes go twice a year)... but he refuses to go to a Christian, because he has built a relationship with the non-Christians at one particular salon. He says they give him more practical insight on preaching and communicating than any homiletics class he had in seminary - because those are the people he is hoping to reach with his messages.

I'm wondering about where my "homiletics class" could be. I have to admit that I don't have one, really... a place where I openly rub shoulders with non-Christians. I used to take my son to a little guitar store in Huntington, IN and I would hang out in the store while he took lessons. Taht was the best hour of my week... to get to talk to people who didn't go to church; who didn't want the normal "pastor things" from me. Funny thing is... the owner of the store now attends my church. So... I'm praying today for a place to begin holding homiletics class. Where is your homiletics class???

I've been trying for awhile to actually pay someone to come to church here. They would have to come 3-4 times, and agree to talk with me afterwards and give me feedback -- for $50. I have approached sevearl people, as has my daughter, and no takers yet. Any suggestions?

I really wish I could find a little dive bar to hang out in. Someplace to go read the mail or something. I really like people who hang out in bars. Not the party crowd necessarily, but the one's who go there because they have no place else to go. The ones who eat their frozen pizza meals there. The ones who come in the afternoon and stay til closing. I don't know why I like those people so... but they are so lonely; and usually so kind to anyone who will give them the time of day or lend an ear. I dunno though... gee, what if somebody from church saw me?!? Oh my!

My daughter tells me Donald Miller is going to be in marion, IN on Nov. 3. I would love to go -- Donald Miller is NOT God, but he IS one awesome writer. I have Bible Study that night though. Hmm.

I am looking forward to having Andrew Draper come and speak at my church this Sunday. Should be good.

Well, I suppose if anyone is reading, this is gettin grather boring. God is good. Gawesome. My son was on the front page of the fort wayne newspaper sunday. That was cool. Sorry if i'm abusing this space.

Hey... and I'm still waiting to hear about that question Rob Rhiner posted last week!!!

And... not that it matters, but I just now noticed my name is spelled wrong on the blog page. It's horwedel, not horwedal. But that's okay... I know, and don't really care. Sometimes I go by Dan Ross because it's easier (ross is my middle name). Alright, now I'm bored. See ya.
