Bible and the Trinity

Hey, the other day I made a comment on a post (The New Fundamentalism) it went like this:

One of my greatest struggles, right now, is the thought that we may have replaced the Trinity with the Bible. God's word is alive, but I am thinking that we have come to worship the Bible and have forgotten God in the process. Just an issue that I'm working through lately. Is there anyone else that has any thoughts on this?

well I know it's hard to teach an old Dog new tricks (Just kidding Wayne) ;-) . But I did receive an e-mail from Wayne (Since he humbly admitted he has not figured this blog thing out yet) and here it is as well as my response back to him. But what I want to know is what do others think about this issue, or are you all rewriting your doctrine on the Trinity as I speak? ;-)

Hi Rob,
I'm writing directly to you as I simply haven't figured out the BLOG stuff yet! Call me technologically challenged, it's okay!I smiled at your concern that we have replaced the trinity with the scripture...Because I remember this was a hot discussion when I was in seminary before you were born! :-) We argued this issue hot and heavy and I finally concluded it was not an either-or issue but the Bible was the written revelation of God and therefore deserved the respect we gave it - but not as the fourth member of the trinity (which was the way our debate seemed to be framed.)You concern, however, is valid. I've discovered that the mission emphasis of the church around the world addresses idolatry, while the mission emphasis in North America addresses truth. Does it tie in to the discussion...Yeah, I think so.Blessings,Wayne

Thanks Wayne,
I am only as savvy as I am out of a necessity to reach the Computer Generation. I too am very challenged in how to use the BLOG stuff, but if you were to go to the site and at the bottom of the discussion there is a link to "post a comment" write your comment in the box that appears sign in using your user name and pass word and presto there it goes.

I am glad that I'm entering into a discussion that has been in the works for a few years now, it has had time to be mulled over and some type of direction and ideas to be formed. Has there been anything written on this issue lately or is it still in the back streets and alleys of Christianity so no one knows that these heresies are being thought?

I do however wonder if some of the approach to the Holy Scriptures isn't a type of idolatry where the relationship with God has been replaced with his love letters to us.
I would like to post this on the blog if that’s alright with you and also to hear your thoughts on this more.
Thanks

I have been trying to post a comment for some time and couldn't figure it out. Thanks Brian for the help.
I find that because we desire truth we tend to worship the source of truth or even the image. Some today believe the truth is only expressed in one way and any other is heresy. Usually this is the KJV and there is nothing wrong with the KJV if you can understand 400 year old English. These remind me of the scribes, pharisees, and teachers of the law in Jesus time. They had the true word of God and missed God.
On the other hand we also have those who will accepted any teaching because it is new. Sometimes this comes to the point of not taking the Word seriously. These I see as having a form of Godliness but denying the power thereof, ( KJV is still ingrained in my mind)
I hope I'm in the middle where God, the 3 in 1, is who I worship. Yet there are times I see me on both sides. Wouldn't it be nice if it was all clear cut & easy to see. It's like computers easy but only if you know how to use them, and a struggle for the rest of us.
