Is This the Biggest CGGC Blooper Ever, or is it Intentional?
The other day, I was checking out the differences among Churches of God official statements on its view of Scripture (Winebrenner's, the Doctrinal Statement's and WE BELIEVE's). I went to our Web site to read it from the "What We Believe" section.
Guess what?
Everything else from WE BELIEVE is there. As far as I can tell, everything's there except the section on the Bible.
Does anyone know why the Bible part was ommitted? Is it a simple oversight? Or, is there something intentional? Are we backing off from WE BELIEVE's statement on Scripture?

That is odd. Also I had not noticed the two resolutions before. http://www.cggc.org/WhatWeBelieve.htm
I did not know the CGGC officially took a stand against apartheid. The stance against militarism is interesting considering our current state of affairs.
From Michael Martin, CGGC tech guy:
"Brian,
FYI. I saw the recent posts about the "We Believe", and in particular
the fact that there isn't a statement about what we believe about the Bible there. That is a missing link on the pages which I will fix later this week, (never noticed it wasn't there!) Until then, the full PDF version of We Believe does have all the sections in it.
Mike"
See, they are taking my question seriously! ;-) Hey, what is apartheid? I never heard that word before, at least that I remember
Apartheid was the system of government in south africa that did not recognize blacks as having any vote. Due to world pressure, the government turned over control to the black africans and Nelson Mandella became the president.
Rob,
I thought maybe you somehow tapped into the cggc site and deleted all the Bible stuff. :) (just kidding).
Hey... and I didn't know about these resolutions either. Hmm.
I stumbled upon those resolutions a bit ago and, of course, being the curious creature I am, had to read. (What does that say about your personality if a resolution can be interesting reading???!!???). Anyway, I was somewhat impressed by the date on them ... 1989! If I remember correctly (and I was in college then, so remembering anything that was happening beyond the Hill - that was for you, Dan K. - is tricky business), AIDS was still very much something that most people didn't want to get anywhere near, yet the resolution seems to be encouraging just that. Like I say, impressive for that time in history.
A little known fact is that most organized denominations, including even the evangelical ones, have some sort of statement of outright pacifism or at least anti-militarism such as the one on the CGGC site. (In fact, out of all Christian denominations in the U.S. and Britian, the Southern Baptists were the only ones to officially come out in support of the current War in Iraq. Most other denominations openly declared against it.)
It seems that institutionally we've remembered that Jesus said to love our enemies, though sadly too many individual churches and conservative Christians seem to have forgotten this in their rush to support whatever the Republican party says and does. Sometimes it makes me wonder if we've sold out our ethics, and perhaps the gospel itself, in exchange for greater political power.
It wouldn't be the first time in history that the church has made that exchange.
Shalom,
