CGGC in an Emerging World
The world is changing rapidly. Postmodern thinking is increasing in the west and the East is becoming part of the Global community. Many in the Churches of God General Conference are interested in what church will look like as fresh expressions in the 21st century. This blog has been encouraged by the CGGC but in no way reflects the official thinking of the denomination. It is a place for free flow of thought and conversation.

I strive for the one on the right (the "Speak No Evil" monkey). In fact, I disagree with the premise of the first two ("See No Evil" & "Hear No Evil"). I don't think we should be closing our eyes and ears to the world for fear of being "corrupted". I think we need to have more confidence in the Holy Spirit than that. After all, Jesus said "It's not what goes into a man that makes him unclean; but what comes out of him." That's why I do my best to "Speak No Evil" (though I can't say that I always succeed.)
Hmm, aren't the original monkeys chinese? In the original language, is it "speak no evil" (commission) or "speak of no evil" (omission)? Given that the context of the other two monkeys is passive, that could suggest the second interpretation. If so, then can I be the fourth monkey? The 1st monkey refused to see it, the second wouldn't hear it, and the third wouldn't condemn it. The fourth monkey got fed up and went to see what he could do about it.
I don't believe we descended from monkeys and apes either. Evolution teaches that monkeys, apes, and any other hominids (including humans) descended from a common ancestor that itself was neither monkey, ape, or homo sapien. (Though I'm sure that's not what you meant.) ;)
