Logoi Spermatokoi?
"No guilt is so small that one man can bear it alone."
~ ancient Chinese wisdom
The world is changing rapidly. Postmodern thinking is increasing in the west and the East is becoming part of the Global community. Many in the Churches of God General Conference are interested in what church will look like as fresh expressions in the 21st century. This blog has been encouraged by the CGGC but in no way reflects the official thinking of the denomination. It is a place for free flow of thought and conversation.

Mike,
Translate that title for me please.
Thanks!
logoi spermatokoi is Greek for "seeds of the Word". It is a phrase coined in AD 150 by the early church father, Justin Martyr, in reference to the truth and glimpses of Christ often found in non-Christian religions, and especially (for the Church Fathers) ancient Greek philosophy.
In the Catholic Church, according to the Second Vatican Council, the 'seeds of the word' are "the mysterious presence of Christ the savior in all religions, insofar as these contain what is "true and holy" and thus salvific as well, but always through Christ, in ways that only He knows."
For me, it is simply a reminder that, as Paul tells us in his Mars Hill discourse in Acts 17, God is at work in every culture and religion to draw men unto himself. Thus, when I encountered this quote from a 15th century Chinese play that pointed so strongly to the need for atonement for our sins, it did not entirely surprise me.
Hope that clears things up.
-Mike
