Tragedy in Lancaster County, PA
By now, almost all of you are probably aware of the tragedy that occurred at the Amish school in Lancaster County, PA. Obviously, we need to be in prayer for the young victims who are recuperating, the families of the victims who were killed, and the family of Charles Roberts, IV, the shooter. I would also ask that we be in prayer for Dwight Lefever, the individual that spoke to the media yesterday on behalf of the Roberts family. Dwight is one of our pastors here in the Eastern Region and he and I graduated from Winebrenner Seminary in the same class. Apparently, Dwight is a friend of the Roberts family. He did a great job reading a statement to the media on behalf of the family. Let's pray that God will give Dwight the wisdom and strength to be His channel of grace to this family and possibly others in that community.
Right now, it's hard to understand how God will be glorified through all of this. However, we know by faith that God is in the business of bringing success out of a mess. Please be in prayer.

It seems terribly obvious - and a bit oversimplistic - to say they don't teach you what to do in a situation like this in seminary, but, all the same, I'm praying that Dwight's training, experience ... all that he is and is lead by the Spirit to be ... will be, as you say, a channel for that community in the long road they have ahead of them.
Given that nearly a week has passed now, it seems that the Amish have become somewhat a model of what forgiveness can bring as healing.
I've heard nothing but positive comments about how their convictions and faith have given them hope in the midst of tragedy especially in comparison to reactions at other school shootings.
