CGGC in an Emerging World
The world is changing rapidly. Postmodern thinking is increasing in the west and the East is becoming part of the Global community. Many in the Churches of God General Conference are interested in what church will look like as fresh expressions in the 21st century. This blog has been encouraged by the CGGC but in no way reflects the official thinking of the denomination. It is a place for free flow of thought and conversation.

Why I am a friend of emerging cGgc.
There seems to be some who think that Brian McLaren is THE voice for the emerging church. He is only one of many. People like Reggie McNeal and Tony Campolo who both were speakers at IMPACT have a voice in the emerging church. People like Leonard Sweet and Scot McKnight who are invited to the Ritz lectures are voices in the emerging church. These voices speak about how the church must reach out to the emerging culture in the way of Jesus.
As a CGGC missionary in a post- Christian emerging culture there are questions I need to ask in reaching the culture I am called to. I need to learn their language, their culture, their philosophy, there mentality. I learned very quickly when I first came to Europe in 1989 that I can not reach this culture with the American gospel. I had to relearn what really matters in the Word. Our churches are not only marked by Modernism but also by American culture.
One thing that marks the emerging church in the USA is the focus on being Missional. The focus that the church is to be a missionary to its city and culture. We need to think outside the bubble as McNeil would say. We need to be aware of the culture we are reaching. For many in the CGGC our traditional ways will work awhile longer in the culture they are in and that is OK but we do need to be aware that the Am culture is changing rather you like it or not. For the church in the emerging culture we need to ask questions on how we can reach the culture we find ourselves in.
Should I come to Europe and try to plant a church in the American context I will fail because I will not be speaking a language Europeans understand. I need to plant a church that focuses on living the way of Jesus. And for me this is what the church in the emerging culture is seeking. And this is what I hope we who blog here are seeking as well. That there are different methods and philosophy of ministry in reaching that goal is a different matter.
I am proud to be a missionary with the CGGC, I am proud of our heritage, and I am hopeful for our future. May we never stop emerging into what God wants us to be … HIS Church!
Doug,
You are doing things there that I caanot understand or presume to comment on.
You are a missionary, you are taking the good news of Jesus Christ to a remote people.
Our Church supports you with a share, and I believe that the NE Ministerium does too. Keep up the good work and continue to be an excellent witness for our beloved CGGC (as well as the rest of the Kingdom).
God's blessings,
Pastor Ken Zitsch
