Clergy/Laity
Have any of you ever asked the question this guy is answering?

The world is changing rapidly. Postmodern thinking is increasing in the west and the East is becoming part of the Global community. Many in the Churches of God General Conference are interested in what church will look like as fresh expressions in the 21st century. This blog has been encouraged by the CGGC but in no way reflects the official thinking of the denomination. It is a place for free flow of thought and conversation.
Have any of you ever asked the question this guy is answering?

One way I have asked the question is when I have interacted with my Catholic friends, who believe that the Catholic church is the one true church and that the Pope is the leader of the church.
I read Brian McLaren once said we are called Protestants because we are "protesting" the Catholic church. But McLaren said he isn't protesting anymore. I thought that sounded really good and repeated it a few times, but then realized by not submitting myself to the Pope, I am in fact still protesting.
But then bring that argument down to the CGGC. It applies some, but not as much. There is less distinction with clergy but still some. And the reason is to maintain some orthodoxy among the believers. And I would hope the overall reason would be to disciple people further into the faith.
This is THE question to me: How do we disciple people?
What are the measures of discipleship?
How does discipleship occur?
What systems do we have to move people into discipleship relationships?
Evangelism is only effective if you have a discipleship system to move to next. Leadership is multiplied if you are pulling leaders from a discipleship system.
We have just implemented a discipleship system in our church that I am fairly satisfied with.
And it started by answering the above questions. How would you answer the above questions (not just Bill, but everyone)? I will start a new thread for this question.
What that guy said really needs a nuanced and thoughtful response that I really don't have time for right now.
He certainly has a point, but seems to be over-reacting a bit. People in my church don't see me as being in a different 'elite class'
