The Hermeneutics Quiz

Scot McKnight has an interesting little quiz on how we read and apply the Bible. The intro paragraph says:
Ever wonder how two people can look at the same passage of the Bible and come away with such different applications? The ways we interpret the Bible, and what enters into our process of applying the Bible, are important for us to be aware of. Without this self-awareness, we can have blind spots in our Bible reading and not even know it.

The goal is not to achieve a perfect score, but your score can indicate whether you have a more conservative, moderate, or progressive bent. Of course it's not perfect - it's only twenty questions - but I think it would be interesting to see how everyone scored. I would like to think the CGGC is open enough to allow for a broad range of thinkers (and this isn't limited to CGGC people). I got a 63 (moderate). What about you?

But on several questions none of the choices suited me.

Reading We Believe, what do you think the official CGGC answer'd be?

Just took the quiz. On several I took an "inbetween" because I didn't go along with any of the answers. But I'm a 46 conservative.

Bill asked what the official CGGC answer would be. I'm sure it would be something like a ...63 (my score). ;)

Actually, I would hope it might allow for all three categories. Do you think this is possible? And if possible, do you think that would be a good thing?

I have to agree with Bill, however, in that some of the choices didn't fit what I believe at all.

It is interesting to think throught the questions though isn't it. I think McKnight's point is that many people seem to have an inconsistent hermeneutic.

The questions might make for an interesting sermon series...
